Can You Hear Your Body?

Distance Early Warning Radar

The Distant Early Warning Line was a system of 63 radar and communication systems stretching 3,000 miles within the Arctic Circle from Alaska to the eastern shore of Canada.

During the Cold War, it was designed to detect incoming missiles from the Soviet Union, giving Canada and the United States an early warning of an attack.

Do you have an early warning system?

One of the characteristics of the healthiest people we know is the ability to detect the most subtle signals their bodies send them. Are you able to discern the smallest changes in your body from the foods you eat, your reaction to certain stresses, digestion, elimination, rest, energy levels and countless other bodily processes?

Certainly the first step is detection. But then we must act. Appropriate action could be as simple as changing our diet to calling an ambulance and everything in between. How much discomfort does it take before you take action?

That’s just one of the dangers of taking the all too common over-the-counter pain relievers. Numbing your body so you can’t hear its cry for help allows the underlying problem to worsen, lengthening the recovery time.

If you know someone who regularly suppresses their early warning system, will you forward them our newsletter and invite them to check out our website? We’d like to help.

Dr. Pam Asks some important questions of interest to Markham residents - Chiropractor Markham Dr. Pam Asks...

What's the difference between sick care and health care?
Sick care is largely about relieving or suppressing symptoms. Health care is about improving performance. While sick care is about how you feel, health care is about how you function. Sick care is what you do to treat an obvious problem, and health care is what you do to avoid the problem and advance your well-being.
Are aches and pains good or bad?
While aches or pains may be unpleasant, they're merely warning signs. As a Markham chiropractor, I see this all the time. The pain is not the problem! It just means a limitation has been reached and something needs to change. That's when we get to work correcting the underlying cause.
